🐦Recipe for the Birds🐦 Looking for a fun holiday activity with the kids? Why not make some bird seed cupcakes! It’s a great way to get them involved in nature, and our feathered friends will love the treat. Plus, we reused our old jam jars to make bird seed party favours for my little girl’s Birthday, and they were a huge hit!
How to Make Bird Seed Cupcakes
Ingredients:
- 150g of lard
- 270g of bird seed
- Small cupcake cases
- String (10cm per cake)
Serves: 12 
Instructions:
- Combine lard and bird seed in a bowl until well mixed.
- Make a small hole in the bottom of each cupcake case. Double a length of string and thread it through the hole, creating a loop.
- Fill each cupcake case with the lard and seed mixture.
- Place the filled cases in the fridge and allow them to set.
- Once set, remove the cases and use the string to hang them up for the birds to enjoy!
How to Make Bird Seed Party Favours
Ingredients:
- Jars with lids
- 25g of lard per jar
- 45g of bird seed per jar
- Small cupcake cases
- String
Serves: each jar will feed 2 
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 160°C / Gas Mark 3-4
- Wash the jars and lids in hot, soapy water, then rinse thoroughly. Place the jars on a baking tray and put them in the oven for 15 minutes to sterilise.
- While the jars are sterilising, melt a block of lard (25g per jar) in a large saucepan over low heat.
- Carefully pour the melted lard into the hot, sterilised jars and allow it to cool and set completely, this may take a few hours.
- Once the lard is set, sprinkle 25g of bird seed over it, then place 2 cupcake cases on top. Add the remaining bird seed into the cupcake case.
- Place 2 x 10cm piece of string on top, with the ends hanging out.
Optional: Print out the following instructions to include with your favours:
- Mix lard and bird seed together.
- Make a small hole in the cupcake case, double the string, and thread through.
- Fill each case with the mixture.
- Pop them in the fridge to set.
- Remove the cases and hang them up for the birds to enjoy!
